The benefits of using an Illustrator map is for it's scaleability and clean, graphic look. Since Adobe® Illustrator produces a vector file, you have the option of enlarging your map to any printable scale without losing the sharpness of your text and objects.
In the event we are making a topographical map for you, then often we need to bring the original map illustrator file into Photoshop to render the terrain. Maps delivered as Photoshop TIF files need to be made as close to the actual size you are intending to print your map as possible. Photoshop produces a raster file, which will lose it's sharpness if you enlarge it.
We hope this clarifies the difference between these two file formats. Contact us if you have any further questions.
